Red Ember Recruitment is seeking to hire a Farm Production Manager who will oversee 200ha of avocado production, ensuring optimal use of natural, human, and financial resources to maximize yield and fruit quality while managing costs.
This role involves hands-on management of daily farm operations, irrigation, fertilization, compliance, and people leadership.
Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or a relevant qualification, and be fluent in Portuguese or any local language.
Responsible for 200ha of avocado production, implementing a full-year farming program relating to spraying, picking, irrigation, fertilizing, and related activities.
Provide general support as required by the supervisors on the ground.
Manage the scheduling of irrigation.
Daily irrigation recording.
Ensure the upkeep and preventative maintenance of the pump station.
Manage fertilizer application program on Avocado.
Manage Chemical spray application on Avocado.
Routine Scouting of orchards and records kept on the online system Implementation of preventative measures for IPM and disease control Manage the pump station operations.
Manage the scheduling of irrigation.
Daily irrigation recording.
Ensure the upkeep and preventative maintenance of the pump station.
Manage fertilizer application program on Avocado.
Manage Chemical spray application on Avocado.
Routine Scouting of orchards and records kept on the online system.
Implementation of preventative measures for IPM and disease control.
Assisting the Operations manager to ensure compliance with all farming accreditations and Health and Safety regulations.
Recruitment of staff, both permanent and seasonal employees.
Ensuring pre-employment medicals are conducted.
Ensure the performance management system is kept up to date and recorded.
Setting objectives.
Measuring performance.
Giving feedback and recognition.
Responsible for the application of legal and fair labour relations practices to ensure labour stability in the section.
Manage the disciplinary processes.
Managing the development programme of subordinates according to needs and priorities.
Requirements Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or a relevant qualification.
Over 3 years experience working on a subtropical fruit farm.
Training in the accreditations relevant to the production of fruit exported and experience in the implementation of these accreditations.
Drivers license.
An inherent ability to manage orchard health to optimize fruit size and quality.
Inspire farm staff to be productive and create innovative ways of working.
Communicate clearly, both written and verbally, to all role players.
Handling employee discipline.
Attentive to detail and administratively strong.
Meaningfully manage team performance.
Good computer skills.
Excellent driver in all terrains.
